Our developers are talented backend math people but UI/UX hasn’t been their strong suit which resulted in a QT reference wallet that has looked dated and often had unintuitive user flows.
Over the past few weeks, Narek, @anwar and myself have been working on improving the look, feel and responsiveness of the official Firo reference wallet (full node) while keeping it lightweight in QT and not introducing unnecessary dependencies via a web-app framework.
In the latest release you would have already seen part of the changes though an upcoming change will further refine this.
Major changes:
Overhaul of the UI to be all in line with Firo branding
Dark mode and light mode
More responsive UI overall with less GUI freeze
Spark Name in its own tab for easier management
Splash screen changes with more accurate statuses
Clear presentation of whether you’re sending from Private or Transparent Firo.
Coming Soon:
Automates consolidation of UTXOs (while still leaving it to you to ask it to do so)
No score: Full green
PoSe score: Full Yellow
Banned: Full Red
At the moment it seems to be dictated by PoSe score, which shows a non-full bar for a banned masternode with score of 4898 and a full bar for 7373, despite both being banned.
Please implement full Chinese support for the wallet interface as soon as possible. This is basic respect for the country on Earth that rendered Trump’s tariff policies ineffective. In addition, I suggest adding an index column to the far left of the node list to make it easier to quickly locate specific nodes by number.
I like new design and I have a few suggestions. The dashboard is great for Sheldons and other backend math people, but you might consider simplifying it if you want to get wide adoption.
For example, the “overview” page is for short overview of the balance and transactions, not for all the details. In other words, make some room to let it breath.
Yes Chinese support is coming very soon! It’s already merged just waiting for the next release. Would need help from native speakers to double check the translation.
I am not a big fan of the “xxx days ago” format. I much prefer to see when exactly a transaction took place not a relative reference of how long it was ago. Maybe it can be made customizable in the wallet options to satisfy both personal preferences. Just my two cents.
FIRO is at $1, so the overview page doesn’t need more than two decimals.
Since Transparent/Private at the top only shows FIRO, it’s OK to remove a ticker.
Recent activity. Show “time ago” instead of the full date.
Recent activity. Hover over “time ago” should show the full date of a transaction.
Recent activity. Show short addresses (1234…5678).
Recent activity. Clicking on a short address should copy the full address.
Recent activity. Use dark red or dark orange for negative balance changes.
Extra
Always round down, not up. For example, 1.337 should be displayed as 1.33, not 1.34. Otherwise people might attempt to create an exchange order for 1.34 FIRO without having enough balance.
Colors. As you know, it’s conventional to use green for positive (bullish) and red for negative (bearish) in western culture. However, since Firo’s primary color is red, you might want to avoid using red for negative balance changes. I have the same issue since darkvegas also uses red as a primary color. Therefore, I’ve chosen bright orange for positive tags and dark orange (almost brown) for negative tags. So, if you prefer not to use red for negative balance change, consider using other shades of red or orange. You can see an example here.
It’s just for the overview dashboard to make it easier to read since the page is currently over-saturated with information. And the full date should be shown on hover similar to the official Monero GUI wallet from getmonero.
The dedicated “transactions” page looks fine with the full date, especially since the date and the time of a transaction are separated on different lines with different colors.
And yes, ideally, there should be a UI switch in the settings, or even on the “transactions” page itself below filters.
